At the Fudoshin Jissen KarateDo, students not only come to get in Killer Shape and learn effective Self Defence skills many students also come with an aspiration to challenge themselves, or to build their skills and become a Karate Competitor! As you can imagine, becoming a successful competitor is a mix of conditioning, technical training, and proper approaches to strategy. However, like any endeavour, it can be done RIGHT, or it can be done WRONG. To approach competition RIGHT, we believe in perfecting the fundamentals first and then progressing at an individual pace to develop each competitor in their own unique fighting style. Our head coach fought for many years both home and abroad winning many titles and gained valuable experience to pass on to willing students.

Kata Class
“Who Else Wants to See INSTANT Improvement in Their Breathing, Balance, Coordination, Strength and General Wellbeing”?
The practice of Kata is misunderstood by many in that it is the key to unlocking a complete pragmatic self defence system intended for civilian confrontation, however in this weekly session the focus is totally on the solo form. During the practice of both kumite and kata, the delicate balance of Mushin and Fudoshin must be acquired. Mushin is an empty mind, a mind beyond thoughts and desire, entirely in the present moment. Fudoshin is an unshakable mind, a spirit burning with intention. Together, they represent the state of mind of the perfect Kata, a mind that is paradoxically both "empty", adaptable and determined. The perfect escape from the daily stresses of modern society combined with the historical roots of karate and an excellent way to keep fit.
